The European Crime Prevention Award prisbelønner kriminalpræventiv indsats i Birmingham (UK, 2004)

The Birmingham Safer Neighbourhood Programme has won the European Crime Prevention Award 2004 on behalf of the United Kingdom.

The programme was commissioned from Crime Concern by the Birmingham Community Safety Partnership (BCSP), funded through Neighbourhood Renewal Fund. Five Safer Neighbourhood Projects were set up across the city, based on high deprivation and crime figures; Fox Hollies, Glebe Farm, Kingstanding, Nechells and West Northfield. By the end of the two year programme, crime in these target areas was found by independent evaluation to have reduced; youth crime reduced by 29%, all crime had reduced by 14%. The work of the projects has continued at ward level since the programme ended in May this year.
